Dr. McCarthy received his Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies in 2000. From 1984-88 he attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with a minor in Biology and history. He also completed graduate coursework in chemistry at John Carroll University.
Dr. McCarthy completed his internship and residency at Northeastern Ohio Colleges of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals prior to his Critical Care Medicine Fellowship training at LSU Health Sciences Center.
Dr. McCarthy received the Resident Merit Award three years in a row through Canton Medical Education Foundation and the Gold Star Award for Outstanding Patient Care from Mercy Medical Center; affiliates of Northeastern Ohio Colleges of Medicine.
His clinical interests include Neurocritical Care, Echocardiography, Blood Conservation, and Nutrition in the Intensive Care Unit, and Extracorporeal Therapies. Dr. McCarthy is a member of several medical organizations and societies, and has contributed to several research projects and clinical trials. He resides in Shreveport, LA with his wife.
